SESSION SUMMARY
Data and information are critical components of business, and should be considered as valuable a resource as buildings, employees, products. If a company desires a competitive advantage, it should focus on managing and using its data effectively. Data governance is the foundation of an organization’s enterprise data management initiative and should be based upon the best practices of enterprise data / information management and focused on implementing data governance and stewardship.
This 2.5-hour presentation will offer a methodology for creating and implementing a data governance program as the foundation of enterprise data management. The presentation uses the framework of the DAMA-DMBOK and other industry standard best practice based references. The attendee will gain an understanding of the importance of starting with a robust and industry standard data management framework, the essential role of data governance, the data steward’s role in the data-information-knowledge continuum, and a proven plan for developing an effective data governance and stewardship program for their organization.
