SESSION SUMMARY

Data Integration is not limited to applying your enterprise ETL solution or an ESB.

Those technologies can place a decisive role, but they are not the entire solution.

Data Integration is a complex problem and it requires a comprehensive approach.  One that includes experience with Data Integration Patterns, Metadata and a deeply analytic mindset will go a long way toward solutioning.

Integration complexities tend to be identified at a project or application level.  These challenges are almost always considered as a point-to-point problem, and result in some form of data transformation and movement.  The most common of which include:  ETL and Web Services.

However, integration complexity tends to extend beyond the participating applications.  Rather, the consumer or subscriber of an information distribution will almost always act as some form of “hub” with further redistribution of the data from the original exchange.

This scenario can involve secondary and tertiary data consumers, some of which might not be known or considered within scope of the project. Yet, when the integration solution is put in place and those outer layer information consumers fail, things will point back to the integration project.
